Ending Online Date Contact: Hopefully, The Easy Way Works
Have you dated someone you met through an online dating site like Parship and discovered you didn’t want to see this person any longer but haven’t found a way to tell them? Help is available.
Most of us don’t enjoy hurting someone’s feelings, but sometimes it’s necessary. When someone you have dated a time or two won’t stop emailing, calling or texting you, it’s time to be assertive. Being vague about future contact isn’t working.
You don’t have to be rude—just be firm. Be honest without being cruel. Tell the person that you are not interested in pursuing a romantic relationship and that you wish him or her well in finding someone.
If contact continues, you might have to blatantly prohibit further contact in any way. If that warning isn’t sufficient, you may, unfortunately, have to turn to legal means. Hopefully, however, it won’t come to that.
Email addresses can be blocked. So can phone numbers with by your cell phone or land line provider. More personal contact can be difficult and irritating. If escalated, it can be dangerous.
Protect yourself from the start. Don’t give your cell phone number early. Be forthright about seeing someone again or not. Hopefully, being genuine and firm will be enough. The more personal information you give early, the harder it might be to end the association with kindness.
